Museums and Heritage sites need to have comprehensive policies that manage the collections, whether this is the building or smaller items. A detailed collection management policy should include all aspects of an organisations operations such as;

Documentation

Exhibition

Storage

Staffing

Security

Outreach

With the pressures on Museums and Heritage Sites to raise funds from the private sector and funding agencies there is a need to provide detailed forward plans, often based on the elements of a thorough collection management plan.

Nigel Sadler has experience of writing policies and plans to cover every aspect of Museum Collection Management. He has produced many new exhibitions, managed collecting policies, rearranged storage areas, introduced documentation systems to four museums, managed staff and covered all aspects of the day to day operations of a museum, three of which have also been in historic buildings with their own management issues.
